2021-22 Hong Kong Awards for Industries (HKAI): Invitation for Entries

The 2021-22 HKAI, supported by the HKSAR Government, is now open for entries.  Hong Kong companies in the manufacturing and services sectors are invited to join.  The closing date for entries is 6 August 2021.

Event Calendar of the SME Centres

To enhance the integrated services of the four existing SME Centres, including SUCCESS under the Trade and Industry Department, the "SME Centre" under the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), "SME One" under the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and "TecONE" under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, SUCCESS has launched an "Event Calendar of the SME Centres" on its website. The Event Calendar facilitates enterprises to obtain information on seminars/workshops/activities organised by the four SME Centres from a single platform, and also provides links to the relevant event web pages to facilitate registration.

SUCCESS Activities


In view of the latest development of the epidemic situation, the counter service of SUCCESS has been resumed.  Meanwhile, webinars, Customer Hotline (Tel.: (852) 2398 5133) and Email Enquiry (success@tid.gov.hk) continue to be operated as usual.  On the other hand, in order to reduce the risk of the spread of the novel coronavirus in the community, SUCCESS will not provide "Video Show of SME Seminars" for the public until further notice.

Webinar: "Online Marketing Strategy to Grow Your Business"

(This webinar will be live-streamed on 18 June 2021)

Online shopping has become the new trend of consumption.  With the growing popularity of social media, online marketing provides a new promotion channel for SMEs' products and services.  In this webinar, an online marketing expert will explain how to shift from traditional marketing to digital marketing and how to expand business on online platforms, and share tips on online marketing with real-life examples.  The speaker will also answer some frequently asked questions, with a view to assisting enterprises to capture the enormous business opportunities. (This webinar will be conducted in Cantonese.)

Business Advisory Workshop: "Tax Planning Under China's New Foreign Investment Law: Guide to Setting Up a Hong Kong-invested Company on the Mainland"

(This workshop will be live-streamed on 9 July 2021)

This workshop is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.  SUCCESS is one of the supporting organisations.  In this workshop, speakers will introduce the latest development of tax policies, primary form of tax and taxation principles in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Mainland, with a particular emphasis on tax planning for foreign-invested enterprises under the Foreign Investment Law. (This workshop will be conducted in Cantonese and Putonghua.)

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition 2021 is now open for application

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-value Patent Portfolio Layout Competition 2021 is co-organised by the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation (Guangdong Intellectual Property Administration), the Intellectual Property Department of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Government of the Macao SAR, and the People’s Government of Foshan Municipality.  The Competition is now open for application.  Application deadline is 30 July 2021.  Details are as follows: -

Seminar on the "Minimum Wage Ordinance"

(7 July 2021 at the Hall of the Mei Foo Community Hall)

This seminar is organised by the Labour Department.  The seminar will introduce the main provisions of the Minimum Wage Ordinance as well as family-friendly employment practices.  Employers, employees and human resources practitioners are welcome to attend. (This seminar will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.  Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and the enrolment deadline is 29 June 2021.)

SME ReachOut  

Amid difficult business environment, HKPC knows SMEs are in the urgent need of cash to keep business running.  The newly established "SME ReachOut" support team is here to help SMEs well equip for bouncing back, through introducing and matching the appropriate funding schemes. 

"SME ReachOut", a dedicated service team operated by HKPC, has commenced operation starting from 1 January 2020 to support SMEs through free-of-charge one-on-one meetings.  The team would help SMEs identify funding schemes that suit their needs, while answering questions relating to applications.  

There are over 40 funding schemes provided by the Government for SMEs, with different funding scopes, amounts and requirements.  "SME ReachOut" serves to enhance SMEs' understanding of the Government's funding schemes, with a view to encouraging better utilisation of the support provided by the Government, and to enhancing their competitiveness and development.

Dedicated Fund on Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales (BUD Fund) 

To support enterprises in exploring more diversified markets, the Government has injected $1.5 billion into the BUD Fund in April 2021 and will launch enhancement measures by phases from July 2021 including –

  1. extending the geographical coverage from all economies with which Hong Kong has signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to also include all economies with which Hong Kong has signed Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (IPPAs); and
  2. increasing the cumulative funding ceiling per enterprise from $4 million to $6 million.

A comparison of the current and enhanced funding scope and ceilings is set out below.

So far Hong Kong has signed eight FTAs covering 20 economies, namely the Mainland, New Zealand, the four member states of the European Free Trade Association (i.e. Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), Chile, Macao, the ten member states of the ASEAN (comprising Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), Georgia and Australia.
  2. So far Hong Kong has signed 22 IPPAs covering 31 foreign economies, namely the ten member states of the ASEAN, Australia, Austria, Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand (an ASEAN member state), the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) has been engaged as the implementation partner of the BUD Fund to implement the funding scheme.  HKPC also regularly organises seminars/webinars in order to enhance enterprises’ understanding of the BUD Fund.  For details of the BUD Fund, please visit its website (https://www.bud.hkpc.org/en) or contact HKPC at 2788 6088.

The webinar is organised by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries.  Properly formulating credit analysis and accounting supervision is the most important operational issue for many SMEs to avoid bad debts.  As the account receivable is the most important asset of a company, if a company could handle and protect it in the most professional way, it will greatly increase a company's cash flow.  In this webinar, professional speaker will discuss and explain credit analysis and the accounting supervision strategies with real cases to help SMEs reduce the risk of bad debts.
