What's New

Event Calendar of the SME Centres

To enhance the integrated services of the four existing SME Centres, including SUCCESS under the Trade and Industry Department, the "SME Centre" under the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), "SME One" under the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and "TecONE" under the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, SUCCESS has launched an "Event Calendar of the SME Centres" on its website. The Event Calendar facilitates enterprises to obtain information on seminars/workshops/activities organised by the four SME Centres from a single platform, and also provides links to the relevant event web pages to facilitate registration.

SUCCESS Activities

In view of the latest development of the epidemic situation, the counter service of SUCCESS has been resumed. Meanwhile, webinars, Customer Hotline (Tel.: (852) 2398 5133) and Email Enquiry (success@tid.gov.hk) continue to be operated as usual. On the other hand, in order to reduce the risk of the spread of the novel coronavirus in the community, SUCCESS will not provide "Video Show of SME Seminars" for the public until further notice.

(This webinar will be live-streamed on 19 January 2022)

Under the new reality of the global pandemic, how can SMEs stay competitive and achieve breakthrough growth in this VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) environment? In this webinar, experts will share how to explore opportunities and embrace the VUCA environment with a structured and holistic Business Model Canvas approach. Speakers will also share the successes of the fastest-growing companies in the world and answer some frequently asked questions, with a view to helping SMEs ensure business sustainability. Business Info-Pack: Support Services for Exploring the Mainland Market

We have recently launched a business info-pack under the "Four-in-one" Integrated Services of the SME Centre, introducing the support services for exploring the Mainland market provided by the Trade and Industry Department, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, with a view to helping enterprises seize the opportunities brought by the domestic circulation. The support services include the provision of Mainland business information, business advisory services, relevant funding schemes, etc.

Suspicious Email Detection System (V@nguard)

The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of the Hong Kong Police Force has joined hands with the University of the Hong Kong (HKU), and the associations representing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to promote an anti-email scam project named e-GUARD to the business sector through a multi-agency approach. Under Project e-GUARD, a Suspicious Email Detection System named V@nguard, is co-developed by the CSTCB and the HKU to facilitate local SMEs in detecting suspicious emails from daily business communications automatically and protecting them from email scams. Currently, V@nguard only operates on email server running on Linux operating system.

Online Seminars on “CISG in Hong Kong – What It Means for Businesses”

(The seminars will be live-streamed on 19 and 26 January 2022)

To help businesses prepare for the implementation of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (“CISG”), the Department of Justice and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce will co-organise two online seminars on 19 January 2022 (Cantonese session, 11:00 am to 12:30 pm HKT) and 26 January 2022 (English session, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm HKT) respectively.

The seminars will cover the following areas which are important to the business sector:

  • Overview of the salient features of CISG, as well as its differences from the existing legal regime in Hong Kong
  • Potential effects of such changes on cross-border trade practices
  • Practical tips concerning dealings in the international sale of goods under CISG

SME ReachOut

Amid difficult business environment, HKPC knows SMEs are in the urgent need of cash to keep business running. The newly established "SME ReachOut" support team is here to help SMEs well equip for bouncing back, through introducing and matching the appropriate funding schemes.

"SME ReachOut", a dedicated service team operated by HKPC, has commenced operation starting from 1 January 2020 to support SMEs through free-of-charge one-on-one meetings. The team would help SMEs identify funding schemes that suit their needs, while answering questions relating to applications.

There are over 40 funding schemes provided by the Government for SMEs, with different funding scopes, amounts and requirements. "SME ReachOut" serves to enhance SMEs' understanding of the Government's funding schemes, with a view to encouraging better utilisation of the support provided by the Government, and to enhancing their competitiveness and development.

Dedicated Fund on Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales (BUD Fund)

The Trade and Industry Department (TID) has rolled out enhancement measures on the BUD Fund to strengthen support to Hong Kong enterprises in exploring new markets and new business opportunities.

Starting from 30 July 2021, the geographical scope under the BUD Fund has been extended to Japan and Korea, with which Hong Kong has signed Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements (IPPAs).  In addition, the cumulative funding ceiling per enterprise has been increased from $4 million to $6 million.

The geographical scope of the BUD Fund will be further extended by phases to cover all economies with which Hong Kong has signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and/or IPPAs.  The implementation timetable is as below:

The first quarter of 2022                          Extend the geographical coverage to Austria, Belgo-Luxembourg Economic Union, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom
The second quarter of 2022 Extend the geographical coverage to Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates
