Services provided by office of the Telecommunications Authority to SMEs include -
1. Issue of Telecommunications Licence
Under the Telecommunications Ordinance (Cap. 106), no person shall operate any telecommunications networks or services unless an appropriate licence from the Telecommunications Authority ("TA") is first obtained. SMEs intending to establish or maintain any means of telecommunications or to provide a public telecommunications service in Hong Kong should approach the TA to apply for the relevant licences.
2. Certification of Telecommunications Equipment
Telecommunications equipment, including wireline equipment for connection to the public telecommunications networks and radio equipment for use in Hong Kong must comply with the technical standards prescribed by the TA. Telecommunications equipment is subject to testing and certification requirement before it can be marketed or used.
SMEs wishing to supply telecommunications equipment for use in Hong Kong may approach this office for copies of the technical standards or apply to this office for certification of their equipment.
SMEs which are testing laboratories may seek the recognition by this office as "Recognised Testing Agencies" to perform evaluation test against the technical standards. In addition, Hong Kong will implement mutual recognition arrangement (MRA) with other APEC economies. Through the MRA, this office may designate competent testing laboratories to perform evaluation against the technical standards of these APEC economies.
