The FEHD handles licence and permit applications in respect of :
(a) Licences for food businesses : restaurants, food factories, bakeries, factory canteens, fresh provision shops, siu mei and lo mei shops, milk factories, frozen confection factories, cold stores and composite food shops.
(b) Permits for food businesses: Chinese herb tea, cut fruit, frozen confections, milk, non-bottled drinks, leung fan, food sold by means of a vending machine, sushi, sashimi, shell fish, fish and oyster/meat to be eaten in raw state.
(c) Licences for other trades: swimming pools, places of public entertainment, undertakers, funeral parlours, commercial bathhouses, offensive trades, and slaughterhouses.
(d) Licences for the sale of liquor
(e) Permits for karaoke establishment
To ensure that food available for human consumption is wholesome, hygienic, safe and properly labelled, we conduct food surveillance and food labelling inspection, exercise import control on high-risk food, and issue health certificates for food exports.

We also organize seminars and talks for members of the public and the food trade to promote food safety and food hygiene; and produce posters, leaflets, booklets, newsletters and other publicity materials to disseminate food safety and food hygiene information.
